Wasserwald (2024)
For 10 months, activists occupied a piece of forest in Grünheide in Brandenburg with tree houses, which is to fall victim to the expansion of the Tesla Gigafactory.
The expansion of the factory would also dramatically worsen Brandenburg's already threatened drinking water supply, as it is located in the middle of a water protection area. To prevent this from happening, the activists gave up their everyday lives and called the “Wasserwald (water forest)” their new home for an indefinite time.
I was able to build up a trusting relationship with the activists from the very beginning and was therefore able to take a personal look at the forest occupation and accompany numerous protest actions.
I was fascinated and impressed by the idea of living together with nature and fighting together to preserve our living conditions.
The uncompromising and often violent eviction by the police put an end to life in the trees all the more dramatically.
The fight for water justice will continue as long as the tireless citizens' initiatives continue to receive support and we do not lose sight of the resistance.
